ASSOCIATED AMERICAN ARTISTS
20 WEST FIFTY-SEVENTH STREET, NEW YORK, N.Y. 10019 212-399-5510

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAM GLANKOFF: PRINTS

Woodcuts and monoprints by Sam Glankoff will be on view at Associated American Artists October 2-20, 1984. This exhibition is held concurrent to a major retrospective of work by Glankoff at the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, September 16 through November 27, 1984.

The Associated American Artists show marks the first time that the range of the artist's
work from the 1920's through the 1960's has been presented in New York. It features his
early representational woodcuts, strong black-and-white images clearly akin to German Expressionism, and Glankoff's first ventures in abstractions. These introduced color into his work and incorporated symbols such as circles and ovals that became central elements of his artistic vocabulary. Also included are several larger monoprints which show the artist more aggressively manipulating both the wood and the color, and which are the immediate precursors to his print-paintings of the 1970's.

The Associated American Artists exhibition is organized by Wendy Snyder, Director of the
Estate of Sam Glankoff, and Robert Conway, Director of Associated American Artists.
